Southwestern Michigan - West recap October 22, 2013
Mattawan scaled the state rankings by moving to 225 from 256 this week, the biggest jump in Southwestern Michigan - West. The Wildcats climbed the ranks as a result of topping Kalamazoo Central 45-7.
Portage Central was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating St. Joseph. The Mustangs came in at 19 in the state poll after placing at number 27 last week.
The Bears' offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. A. J. Montoya threw for 93 yards and Mason Shinrock had 39 yards receiving. On the ground Jack Turak contributed 184 yards. Connor Hubble helped St. Joseph's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 34 yards.

Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Niles's Darek Bullock-Mills and Ra'Quon Glenn have proven to be a lethal combination. Bullock-Mills has thrown for 922 yards this season, while Glenn has 50 catches for 794 yards. Mattawan's Kyle Hedden leads the league in rushing yards with 803.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Matt Stephens' team takes on Gandalf Church's team. The Wildcats are currently in fifth, while the Bears are in second.
Adding to the longest winning streak in Southwestern Michigan - West this week, Brett Foerster's team beat St. Joseph 49-28. The victory was the eighth in a row for the Mustangs.
