Pinnacle has gone 9-1 against Mountain Ridge recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Pioneers will challenge the Mountain Lions at 3:45 p.m. Pinnacle will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Pinnacle is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Arizona's top teams: O'Connor, who was ranked second at the time (Pinnacle was ranked 16th). The Pioneers blew past the Eagles 7-0 on Thursday. Considering the Pioneers have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Not much got past Kodi Crabtree, who gave up just three hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep O'Connor off the board. Crabtree has been consistent: she hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Pinnacle got a massive performance out of Torynn Slaughter, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Bri Smith, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Mountain Ridge didn't have quite enough to beat Boulder Creek on Thursday and fell 3-2. The Mountain Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Mountain Ridge saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Italia Carpio, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Pinnacle's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-6-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Mountain Ridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Pinnacle hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Mountain Ridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Pinnacle couldn't quite get it done against Mountain Ridge in their previous meeting on April 3rd as they fell 4-1. Can the Pioneers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
