Rio Grande is 0-10 against Atrisco Heritage Academy since April of 2015 but things could change on Tuesday. Rio Grande is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Monday. They lost 21-6 to Hope Christian. Ravens fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Huskies since on Monday.
Meanwhile, while Atrisco Heritage Academy put up plenty of runs on Friday, the same can't be said for West Mesa. The Jaguars put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 15-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Jaguars, who have now won eight games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Melanie MacIas made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Juliana Hernandez and Aalyiah Chavez did most of the damage at the plate: Hernandez went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Chavez went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Myriah Cordova was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Atrisco Heritage Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Mesa only posted an OBP of .211.
Atrisco Heritage Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Rio Grande, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-16.
Rio Grande might still be hurting after the 19-4 loss they got from Atrisco Heritage Academy in their previous matchup on April 11th. Can the Ravens avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
