Basketball Recap: Samayah Barnes Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Northeast

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Largo, Dunedin was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 48-28 margin over the Northeast Vikings. The Falcons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matches by 20 points or more this season.

Dunedin's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Samayah Barnes, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine steals. That's the most steals Barnes has posted since back in November of 2023. Another player making a difference was Erionna Henry, who posted ten points along with eight rebounds and seven steals.

Dunedin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive contests.

Northeast lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jy'Aira Washington, who had 14 points. That was a full 50% of Northeast's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. Shiloh Baker was another key player, putting up three points and six boards.

With the victory, Dunedin broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-7. As for Northeast, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.

Dunedin will look to defend their home court on January 22nd against St. Petersburg Catholic at 7:30 p.m. Northeast has already played their next match, a 54-17 win against Pasco on the 16th.
