The St. Xavier Bombers won the last time they faced the Lakota West Firebirds, and things went their way on Saturday too. St. Xavier came out on top against Lakota West by a score of 52-45. Given St. Xavier's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while Lakota West is ranked 67th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
St. Xavier got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Gordy Sulfsted out in front who scored 11 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jacob Wassler, who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds.
St. Xavier is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. As for Lakota West, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-5.
St. Xavier will head out on the road to challenge Elder at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Elder is on a five-game streak of home wins, St. Xavier a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. Lakota West will take on Princeton at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
