The Pueblo Central Wildcats had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They came out on top against Pueblo County by a score of 55-45. That's another feather in the cap for Pueblo Central, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Xavier Davis was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Tayvon Evans, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Pueblo County lost, one person who can't be blamed is Dominic Mauro. Despite the final result, he scored 14 points along with nine rebounds. Harley Harding was another key contributor, scoring five points.
Pueblo Central is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. As for Pueblo County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-5 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pueblo Central won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Widefield at 1:00 p.m. on January 20th. Widefield will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 278th, while Pueblo Central is ranked 79th). As for Pueblo County, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Pueblo South at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Pueblo South knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully Pueblo County likes a good challenge.
