Softball Game Preview: Goodhue Wildcats vs. Mabel-Canton Cougars

Goodhue has gone 9-1 against Mabel-Canton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Wildcats will host the Cougars at 4:00 p.m. Goodhue has given up an average of 6.7 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Goodhue's offense. They came up short against Stewartville on Tuesday, falling 11-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Wildcats in their meetings with the Tigers: they've now lost eight in a row.

Goodhue saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aubrey Christianson, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Mabel-Canton got themselves on the board against Grand Meadow/Kingsland/LeRoy-Ostrander on Tuesday, but Grand Meadow/Kingsland/LeRoy-Ostrander never followed suit. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 win over the Superlarks. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Superlarks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Not much got past Tylar Wenthold, who gave up just two hits and racked up 17 Ks to keep Grand Meadow/Kingsland/LeRoy-Ostrander off the board. Wenthold has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Ella Halverson was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.

Mabel-Canton's win bumped their record up to 14-5. As for Goodhue, their loss dropped their record down to 4-11.

Goodhue came out on top in a nail-biter against Mabel-Canton when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 8-6. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
