Football Game Preview: Shelbyville Dragons vs. Garrison Bulldogs

For the first time this season, Shelbyville will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will venture away from home to square off against the Garrison Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Shelbyville has given up an average of 45.6 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Last Friday, Shelbyville didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Carlisle, but they still walked away with a 38-34 victory. The win continues a trend for the Dragons in their matchups with the Indians: they've now won three in a row.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Shelbyville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ronnie Williams, who rushed for 197 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Williams has been hot recently, having also posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last four times he's played. Another passer making a difference was Gavin McDonald, who threw for 171 yards and three TDs.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Garrison over North Webster in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Bulldogs blew the Knights out of the water with a 46-7 final score. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Bulldogs' disadvantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 421st in Texas, while the Knights are ranked 139th in Louisiana).

Shelbyville's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Garrison, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Shelbyville barely slipped by Garrison when the teams last played back in October of 2024, winning 43-42. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dragons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
