Roncalli Catholic has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge The Pierce Bluejays at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Thursday, Roncalli Catholic never let their opponents score. They blew past Concordia 64-0 at home. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Roncalli Catholic just coasted through the last quarter.
Roncalli Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brady Mcgill led the charge by throwing for 102 yards and five touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes. Roncalli Catholic also got a significant boost from Josiah Roby, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 117 yards.
Meanwhile, Pierce really took it to West Point-Beemer for the full four quarters, racking up a 53-19 victory on the road. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 27-6.
Keenan Valverde went supernova for Pierce, rushing for 176 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 9.3 yards per carry. Valverde is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ben Bolling, who rushed for 73 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 7-2.
Keep an eye on the end zone in Friday's game as Roncalli Catholic and Pierce haven't had much trouble getting there this season. Roncalli Catholic commands a daunting offense this season, having averaged 5 touchdowns per game. However, it's not like Pierce struggles in that department as they've been even better at 5.6 per game. With these two high-octane teams facing off on Friday, fans should be in for an exciting offensive matchup.
Roncalli Catholic came up short against Pierce in their previous meeting back in September, falling 37-28. Can Roncalli Catholic avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
