Maple Mountain is on a three-game streak of home losses, and Spanish Fork a three-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Friday. The Maple Mountain Golden Eagles will host the Spanish Fork Dons at 7:00 p.m.
Maple Mountain's offense might be in the hot seat on Friday considering what happened against Springville on Friday. They took a blow against the Red Devils, falling 28-0. While losing is never fun, the Golden Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah football rankings (they are ranked 67th, while the Red Devils are ranked 18th).
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Spanish Fork). They blew past Payson 42-20 on Friday. The win was some much needed relief for the Dons as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Maple Mountain better keep an eye on Nixon Warren. He was instrumental in Spanish Fork's win, rushing for 79 yards and two TDs on only eight carries, while also throwing for 133 yards and a pair of touchdowns. James Buck was another key player, rushing for 136 yards while picking up 8.0 yards per carry.
Spanish Fork was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 273 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.
Spanish Fork didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Jakob Cloward.
Maple Mountain's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Spanish Fork, their victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 2-5.
Maple Mountain was able to grind out a solid win over Spanish Fork in their previous matchup back in August of 2024, winning 35-27. Will the Golden Eagles repeat their success, or do the Dons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
