Jackson Herzog spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. He also tossed two walks, which is notable because Dalton is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 2-3 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Dalton let Sam Klein and Ryan Feder run wild. Klein went 1-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double, while Feder went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs Feder has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Miles Gumbs, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs.
Meanwhile, Trinity had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Collegiate a 6-0 shutout on Wednesday.
The team relied heavily on Matthew Ladden, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Winn Brian was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Dalton is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Trinity, their win bumped their record up to 5-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Dalton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Trinity struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Dalton's way against Trinity in their previous meeting last Monday, as Dalton made off with a 14-4 victory. Will Dalton repeat their success, or does Trinity has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
