After a string of three wins, the Ponte Vedra Sharks's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell just short of Paxon School For Advanced Studies by a score of 49-46. Ponte Vedra was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Golden Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
When it comes to explaining why Ponte Vedra lost, one person who can't be blamed is Maya Richards. Despite the final result, she scored 20 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Richards has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Gavazzi, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Ponte Vedra's defeat dropped their record down to 16-7. As for Paxon School For Advanced Studies, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.
Ponte Vedra will head out on the road to take on the Yellow Jackets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Augustine is on a seven-game streak of home wins, the Sharks a seven-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. Paxon School For Advanced Studies will take on the Stingrays at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Atlantic Coast will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
