Gilman City/North Daviess kicked off their season on the road on Tuesday and hit a couple of potholes. They fell 68-59 to Grundy County/Newtown-Harris. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Grundy County/Newtown-Harris to victory, but perhaps none more so than Corbin Axtell, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 18 rebounds. Axtell is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last 14 games he's played. Hunter Miller was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Gilman City/North Daviess' loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Grundy County/Newtown-Harris, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 15-3.
Gilman City/North Daviess does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Grundy County/Newtown-Harris and the Red Birds will face off at 6:30 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Winston will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Missouri Rankings (they are ranked 473rd, while the Panthers are ranked 131st).
