Normandy is 7-2 against Bay since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Invaders will venture away from home to take on the Rockets at 5:00 p.m.
Normandy couldn't beat Lakewood on Monday even though they stacked four runs on them in the first inning. The Invaders fell just short of the Rangers by a score of 9-8. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Ava Ramirez made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and fired off four runs, four doubles, and one RBI while going 4-for-4. Those doubles marked the first that she has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Kirk, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Meanwhile, Bay gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They put the hurt on North Olmsted with a sharp 18-3 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Rockets considering their one-run performance the game before.
Lucy Corbett made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Corbett was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Julia Mavis was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Aleiyha Aponte, who went 4-for-5 with three runs and one RBI.
Bay always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Olmsted only posted an OBP of .348.
The victory snapped Bay's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-9 record. As for Normandy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Normandy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .340. However, it's not like Bay struggles in that department as they've averaged .322. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Normandy skirted past Bay 11-10 when the teams last played on April 7th. Will the Invaders repeat their success, or do the Rockets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
