Midland Park has gone a perfect 10-0 against Cresskill recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Panthers will face off against the Cougars at 4:15 p.m. Midland Park will be strutting in after a victory while Cresskill will be coming in after a defeat.
Midland Park will bounce into Wednesday's match after beating Emerson, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Panthers walked away with an 8-3 win over the Cavaliers on Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.
Julia Henderson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on 11 hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Abigail Kuhnel, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Heidi Marcus, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Midland Park was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
New Milford hit Cresskill with a five-run fifth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cougars came up short against the Knights, falling 9-2. The Cougars haven't had much luck with the Knights recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.
Cresskill also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Sophia Coleman gave up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs on eight hits.
On the hitting side, Caitlin Mcgee was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
The victory got Midland Park back to even at 10-10. As for Cresskill, they now have a losing record of 8-9.
Everything went Midland Park's way against Cresskill in their previous matchup back in April, as Midland Park made off with a 16-5 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
