Neumann-Goretti is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Wednesday. They will square off against the Roman Catholic Cahillite at 4:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
On Saturday, Neumann-Goretti got the win against State College by a conclusive 12-6.
Neumann-Goretti got a great performance from Johnluca LaSpada as he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit.
At the plate, Nicky Genzano and Christian Meitzler did most of the damage at the plate: Genzano scored two runs while going 1-for-2, while Meitzler went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick DiGiacomo, who scored two runs and stole two bases.
Neumann-Goretti always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as State College only posted an OBP of .379.
Roman Catholic not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since March 25, 2024. They blew past Northeast 14-2. Considering the Cahillite's hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Dylan Carter looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Pat Buckley, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Luis Selles was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Neumann-Goretti now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Roman Catholic, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Neumann-Goretti came out on top in a nail-biter against Roman Catholic in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 8-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for Neumann-Goretti since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
