The Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North Raiders and the Veterans Memorial Chargers squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North Raiders had to settle for second. The contest between the pair wasn't particularly close, with the Raiders falling 45-28. Their loss signaled the end of their 12-game winning streak.
When it comes to explaining why Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ethan Guerra. Despite the final result, he rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries. Guerra's longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Julius Arredondo, who threw for 130 yards and two touchdowns.
Veterans Memorial can attribute much of their success to Gilbert Trillo, who rushed for 33 yards and two touchdowns, and also picked up 74 receiving yards. Michael Montoya was another key contributor, throwing for 117 yards and two touchdowns on only nine passes.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North's loss dropped their record down to 12-1. As for Veterans Memorial, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 11-2.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Veterans Memorial will be playing at home against Miller at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Miller's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the field this season.
