The Independence 76ers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their ninth straight loss. They were outmatched by Christopher at home and fell 59-27. While losing is never fun, Independence can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 924th, while Christopher is ranked 350th).
Independence lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Joshua Villanueva, who scored ten points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Thorn, who scored six points.
Independence has not been sharp recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season. As for Christopher, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-8.
Independence will head out on the road to challenge Evergreen Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Evergreen Valley is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. Christopher won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Menlo-Atherton at 12:00 p.m. on January 20th.
