On the hitting side, Braydon Passmore was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Trumann is 2-1 when Passmore posts two or more runs, but 1-11 otherwise. Jacob Jones also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, West Memphis posted their closest victory since April 23, 2024 on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Gosnell 7-6. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Blue Devils.
Maddox Maloy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on 11 hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, West Memphis got a big performance out of Drew Jenkins, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. Those two hits gave Jenkins a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nolan Rodgers, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
West Memphis' win bumped their record up to 4-14. As for Trumann, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-12.
West Memphis' hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Trumann has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for West Memphis, though, as they've been averaging only 3.5 strikeouts. Will Trumann keep running through batters, or will the Blue Devils buck the trend?
Trumann skirted past West Memphis 7-5 in their previous meeting back in March of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
