The North Yarmouth Academy Panthers are taking a road trip to challenge the Freeport Falcons at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
On Wednesday, North Yarmouth Academy got the win against Old Orchard Beach by a conclusive 16-1. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by eight runs or more this season.
Lily Fortin made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Fortin was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs.
In other batting news, Jordan Nash was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Brooklyn Goodman also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
North Yarmouth Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Freeport put another one in the bag on May 5th to keep their perfect season alive. They never let Morse get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. The Falcons' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Like North Yarmouth Academy, Freeport also got a great game from a two-way player: Piper Larochelle. She pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Larochelle has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Freeport let Isabella George and Ali Brown run wild. George went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Brown got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Vanessa St. Pierre, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Freeport pushed their record up to 4-0 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for North Yarmouth Academy, their record now sits at 9-2.
Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. North Yarmouth Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .517. However, it's not like Freeport struggles in that department as they've averaged .437. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
North Yarmouth Academy took their win against Freeport when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 8-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
