After a string of three wins, the Marco Island Academy Rays's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They were outmatched by The Village School of Naples at home and fell 84-53. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Marco Island Academy came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while The Village School of Naples is ranked 382nd).
Marco Island Academy's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jordan Rodden, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. Rodden is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played. Nick Sadler was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with 3 steals.
Marco Island Academy's loss dropped their record down to 3-1. As for The Village School of Naples, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marco Island Academy will challenge Donahue Catholic at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for The Village School of Naples, they will head out on the road to face off against Southwest Florida Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Southwest Florida Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully The Village School of Naples likes a good challenge.
