The Homewood Patriots had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.5 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They came out on top against Pelham by a score of 31-21. Homewood pushed the score to 28-7 by the end of the third, a deficit Pelham cut but never quite recovered from.
Homewood's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Evan Ausmer, who rushed for 122 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries. Aj Crear was another key contributor, rushing for 41 yards and two touchdowns.
Despite the loss, Pelham still got an impressive performance from Clayton Mains, who threw for 211 yards and three touchdowns.
Homewood's victory was their sixth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 6-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 28.0 points per game. As for Pelham, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Homewood will stay at home for another week and welcome Briarwood Christian. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Alabama (Briarwood Christian is ranked 52nd, while Homewood is ranked 55th). As for Pelham, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Chilton County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
