Basketball Recap: Andre Thomas Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Enka

Asheville hadn't done well against Enka recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Asheville Cougars managed an 80-76 win over the Enka Jets. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Cougars also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2024.

Asheville's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Andre Thomas, who went 11 of 18 on his way to 26 points. Thomas' evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Elijah Cox was another key player, going 5 for 9 en route to 13 points along with five boards and three steals.

Enka's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Logan Trantham, who went 7 of 14 on his way to 21 points. Trantham has been hot, having posted 15 or more points the last seven times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lawson Mcclure, who went 6 for 12 en route to 19 points.

Asheville's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 4-15. As for Enka, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season.

Asheville will head out to face off against A.C. Reynolds at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. A.C. Reynolds will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something Asheville surely won't give up without a fight. As for Enka, they will square off against T.C. Roberson at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Enka is facing T.C. Roberson at the right time seeing as T.C. Roberson is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
