After both having extra time off, the Medfield Warriors and the Holliston Panthers will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Medfield was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Ashland last Wednesday. The Warriors blew past the Clockers 12-6. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Warriors as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Sophie Baker was incredible, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Lindsay Barrett also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Medfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They got five more hits than Ashland's also-impressive total of 11.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Holliston, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They never let Wayland get on the board and left with a 7-0 victory last Thursday.
The result came thanks to Emily Hegerich's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up 12 Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Skylar MacDonald, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Grace Schoenberg, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Holliston's record is now 2-6. As for Medfield, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 2-6.
Holliston's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Medfield has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Holliston, though, as they've been averaging 10.4 hits. Given Medfield's sizable advantage in that area, the Panthers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Medfield took their victory against Holliston when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 8-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
