The Cheyenne Desert Shields had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Southeast Career Tech 54-51. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Cheyenne has posted yet this season.
Nita Franklin continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 20 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks. That makes it five consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Cheyenne's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Elissa Sambo, who scored ten points along with three steals.
When it comes to explaining why Southeast Career Tech lost, one person who can't be blamed is Morgan Sweet. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 25 points and 16 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Bianca Vazquez, who scored eight points along with six assists and two steals.
Cheyenne's win bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Southeast Career Tech, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cheyenne will take on Legacy at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Southeast Career Tech, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Somerset Academy Losee at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Somerset Academy Losee's defense has only allowed 29.8 points per game this season, so Southeast Career Tech's offense will have their work cut out for them.
