The Buena Vista Bison will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Omaha North Vikings at 7:15 p.m. on February 9th. Buena Vista will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 259th, while Omaha North is ranked 22nd).
Buena Vista struggled with offensive rebounds on Saturday (Norfolk had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Buena Vista was beaten by Norfolk 68-29.
Despite the loss, Buena Vista had strong showings from Mogtaba Mohamed, who scored 16 points, and Eli Smith, who scored five points along with nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Omaha North had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.1 points), and they went ahead and made it ten on Tuesday. They blew past Omaha South 76-45 on the road. Omaha North has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 24 points or more this season.
It was another big night for Mynor Strong, who scored 30 points along with six assists and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jerri'on Williams, who scored 15 points along with four steals.
Buena Vista's loss was their 19th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-16. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.2 points per game. As for Omaha North, their victory bumped their record up to 15-2.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Buena Vista have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 26.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Omaha North struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Buena Vista was taken down by Omaha North 94-20 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Buena Vista was down 57-11.
