The Northeastern Clinton Cougars had to start their season on the road on Thursday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They took a 57-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Massena. While losing is never fun, Northeastern Clinton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 435th, while Massena is ranked 205th).
Northeastern Clinton lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jordan Brown, who scored 18 points. Max Rabideau was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Massena's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Taylor Mitchell, who scored 24 points. Another player making a difference was Colin Patterson, who scored 17 points.
Northeastern Clinton's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Massena, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
Northeastern Clinton will head out on the road to face off against Saranac at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Massena, they will square off against Saranac Lake at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Saranac Lake focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Thursday.
