The Orange Panthers fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Cedar Ridge Fighting Red Wolves on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 54-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Fighting Red Wolves. Orange's defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
When it comes to explaining why Orange lost, one person who can't be blamed is Evelyn George. Despite the final result, she scored 21 points along with five rebounds and three steals. George scored a full 44.7% of Orange's points, the 11th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Marshea Byrd, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Amiyah Ware continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Cedar Ridge, scoring 35 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The game was Ware's 11th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kate Finnegan, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
Orange's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-5. As for Cedar Ridge, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Orange's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Person at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th. Cedar Ridge will take on Eastern Alamance at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
