The Coventry Comets struggled with assists on Thursday (the Streetsboro Rockets had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Coventry ended up on the wrong side of a tough 51-26 walloping at the hands of Streetsboro. While losing is never fun, Coventry can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 670th, while Streetsboro is ranked 130th).
Madison Burkhart was Coventry's leading scorer, having posted ten points. Burkhart also led the team in rebounds with eight.
Naomi Benson was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds for Streetsboro. Benson hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for 17 straight games. Another player making a difference was Ella Kassan, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Coventry has not been sharp recently as the team has lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season. As for Streetsboro, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-4.
Coventry will head out on the road to face off against Northwest at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Streetsboro, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Ravenna at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Ravenna is coming into the game with eight straight defeats on the road, meaning Streetsboro will have to defend against a team hungry for a victory.
