Firelands extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 8-11 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 10-9 heartbreaker at the hands of the Brookside Cardinals. Surprisingly, this marked the Falcons' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Lexi Schrader made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-5 with seven stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Mckenzie Janosik was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
As for Brookside, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-15. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.3 runs over those games.
On Brookside's side, Markie-Ann Aliff spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and four unearned) runs on 11 hits. Aliff has been hot, having also posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played.
At the plate, Trinity Arend was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Khloe Racz, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Coming up, Firelands will square off against Wellington at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Dukes have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season. As for Brookside, they will welcome St. Joseph Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Cardinals are facing the Jaguars at the right time seeing as the Jaguars are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
