The Ellis Railroaders made easy work of the Sylvan-Lucas Mustangs on Tuesday and carried off a 7-1 victory. Considering the Railroaders have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Ben Byers was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Byers was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Chance Jimenez was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Ellis' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-5 when he doesn't). Aiden Aschenbrenner was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run.
Ellis kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in four consecutive games.
Ellis' win bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Sylvan-Lucas, they dropped their record down to 4-7 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.
The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Ellis beat the Mustangs by a score of 14-1 later that day.
