If the Gaston Christian Eagles were riding high off their 68-43 takedown of the Hickory Grove Christian Lions last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Gaston Christian fell 68-56 to Concord Academy on Friday. Gaston Christian was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Concord Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Despite the loss, Gaston Christian still got an impressive performance from Makoi Mabor Marier, who dropped a double-double on 35 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mabor Marier has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Cameron Newman, who scored eight points along with nine assists.
Sean Birmingham was his usual excellent self, scoring 22 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks for Concord Academy. The team also got some help courtesy of Ian Howard, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds.
Gaston Christian bumped their record down to 12-13 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Concord Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-14 record this season.
Gaston Christian will head out on the road to challenge Gaston Day at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Gaston Day will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for Concord Academy, they will be playing at home against Northside Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Northside Christian Academy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Concord Academy in North Carolina (Northside Christian Academy is ranked 23rd, while Concord Academy is ranked 93rd).
