After flying high against the Union County Fightin' Tigers last Tuesday, the Williston Red Devils came back down to earth. Williston fell to Dunnellon 54-48. While losing is never fun, Williston can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 294th, while Dunnellon is ranked 83rd).
Williston's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Janiyah Span, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Delecia Dallas was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Tatiana Matthews was her usual excellent self, scoring 24 points along with nine rebounds and five steals for Dunnellon. Matthews is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Princess Hardin, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds.
Williston's defeat dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Dunnellon, the win (which was their 13th in a row) raised their record to 16-2.
Williston will head out on the road to face off against The Rock at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Dunnellon, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Bradford at 7:00 p.m.
