Elijah Scwhab made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of John Hay's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 1-9 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, John Hay got a massive performance out of Beau Harris Jr, who got on base in six of his seven plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Harris Jr has become a key player for John Hay: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Erek Williams, who went 3-for-6 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.
John Hay kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for John F. Kennedy's offense. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 18-0 to Bard Early College, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Fighting Eagles haven't had much luck with the Raptors recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
John F. Kennedy's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for John Hay, their record is now 5-10.
John Hay took their win against John F. Kennedy in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 20-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for John Hay since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
