Softball Recap: Porter Takes a Loss

Porter came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the Weslaco East Wildcats, falling 9-3. The Cowboys' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Mia Sosa spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and four unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Gabby Sosa made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Miley Cortez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Porter's defeat dropped their record down to 11-7. As for Weslaco East, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Porter will head out to square off against Harlingen South at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Hawks will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Cowboys surely won't give up without a fight. As for Weslaco East, they will head out on the road to take on Donna North at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats are facing the Chiefs at the right time seeing as the Chiefs are stuck on a 15-game losing streak.
