Sneads and Blountstown are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. Sneads will be playing in front of their home fans against Blountstown at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Sneads is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Sneads turned things around against Marianna on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Bulldogs 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pirates have posted against the Bulldogs since April 28, 2022.
Sneads let Aaron Williams and Isaiah Perkins run wild. Williams scored a run while going 3-for-3, while Perkins scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. That's the most hits Williams has posted since back in February. Alex Gaines was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Blountstown). Everything went their way against Vernon on Thursday as Blountstown made off with an 18-1 win. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Yellowjackets: they've now won five in a row.
Daniel Pope was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.
In other batting news, Bryson Fleck was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. He has become a key player for Blountstown: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-13 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Terrell Williams, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Blountstown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 12.4.
Sneads' win bumped their record up to 7-10. As for Blountstown, their victory bumped their record up to 6-14.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Sneads has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Blountstown struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Sneads couldn't quite get it done against Blountstown when the teams last played back in February as they fell 11-6. Will Sneads have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
