The Albuquerque Bulldogs will head out on the road to challenge the Atrisco Heritage Academy Jaguars at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Albuquerque is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.
Albuquerque made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Cleveland, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Albuquerque was the clear victor by a 14-4 margin over Cleveland on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bulldogs considering their two-run performance the matchup before.
Emma Gonzalez was excellent, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. Honey Fields also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Atrisco Heritage Academy faced Volcano Vista in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. Atrisco Heritage Academy came out on top against Volcano Vista by a score of 11-6. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Jaguars considering their two-run performance the contest before.
Melanie MacIas was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. MacIas was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run and four runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aalyiah Chavez, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four RBI and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Larissa Morinia was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
Atrisco Heritage Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Volcano Vista only posted an OBP of .353.
Albuquerque has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. Atrisco Heritage Academy's record now sits at 7-1.
Saturday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Albuquerque has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .510. However, it's not like Atrisco Heritage Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .578. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Albuquerque beat Atrisco Heritage Academy 12-7 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Albuquerque since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
