Basketball Game Preview: Cottondale Hornets vs. Wewahitchka Gators

Cottondale is 9-1 against Wewahitchka since January of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Cottondale Hornets will look to defend their home court against the Wewahitchka Gators at 7:00 p.m. Cottondale is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58 points per game this season.

Having struggled with five losses in a row, Cottondale turned things around against Sneads last Friday. They walked away with a 53-41 win over the Pirates. The Hornets pushed the score to 41-20 by the end of the third, a deficit the Pirates cut but never quite recovered from.

Cottondale's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cameron Odom, who went 5 for 8 en route to 13 points along with six assists and four steals. Odom has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Tramond Collins was another key player, going 7 of 10 on his way to 16 points and five boards.

Odom wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Cottondale was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sneads only racked up seven assists.

Meanwhile, Wewahitchka was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were outmatched by Port St. Joe and fell 65-25. The game marked the Gators' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Cottondale will have to contain Bryce Ethridge as he made an impact in Wewahitchka's last game. He posted four points and eight rebounds.

Cottondale's victory bumped their record up to 10-8. As for Wewahitchka, their loss dropped their record down to 5-13.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Cottondale has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29 boards per game. However, it's not like Wewahitchka struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.4 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Cottondale strolled past Wewahitchka in their previous matchup back in December of 2024 by a score of 75-61. Will Cottondale repeat their success, or does Wewahitchka have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
