On Tuesday, the Riverside Warriors faced the James F. Byrnes Rebels in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Riverside fell 64-53 to James F. Byrnes. Riverside was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as James F. Byrnes apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played last Thursday.
Several Warriors players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sophia Powell, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. Powell set a new season high mark in steals with four. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyndal Haroski , who scored 17 points.
This is the second loss in a row for Riverside and nudges their season record down to 5-3. As for James F. Byrnes, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Riverside will face off against Gaffney at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Gaffney will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 125th, while Riverside is ranked 15th). As for James F. Byrnes, they will head out on the road to face off against Greer at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Greer focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Monday.
