The Scurry-Rosser Wildcats will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Blooming Grove Lions at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in Scurry-Rosser's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last six matchups.
Last Friday, Scurry-Rosser really took it to Trinity Leadership for the full four quarters, racking up a 49-12 win on the road. With Scurry-Rosser ahead 36-6 at the half, the match was all but over already.
Scurry-Rosser's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but De'shawn Wren led the charge by rushing for 105 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Ralph Miller, who rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.5 yards per carry.
Meanwhile, Blooming Grove ended up a good deal behind Mildred on Friday and lost 34-19. Blooming Grove gained 77 more yards on the day, but it was Mildred that made the best of use of them.
Despite their loss, Blooming Grove saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Noah Hutchison, who threw for 271 yards and a touchdown, was perhaps the best of all.
Scurry-Rosser's victory was their sixth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 7-0. To be fair, it's not like the team was facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-6-1 Trinity Leadership and 1-5 Rice (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 39.2% over those games). As for Blooming Grove, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-3.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday' matchup: Scurry-Rosser has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 316.9 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Blooming Grove, though, as they've been averaging only 91.3 per game. How will Blooming Grove fare against such a dominant running game?
Everything went Scurry-Rosser's way against Blooming Grove when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as Scurry-Rosser made off with a 28-7 win. Does Scurry-Rosser have another victory up their sleeve, or will Blooming Grove turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
