Strom Thurmond is 7-2 against Fox Creek since December of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Strom Thurmond Rebels will be playing in front of their home fans against the Fox Creek Predators at 6:15 p.m. Hopefully Strom Thurmond focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday.
After a string of three wins, Strom Thurmond's good fortune finally ran out. They took a 41-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of Silver Bluff. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Strom Thurmond in their matchups with Silver Bluff: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the loss, Strom Thurmond got a solid performance out of Katlyn Chinn, who scored 14 points along with six assists and six steals. Chinn has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Lawson Lowe, who scored nine points.
Strom Thurmond struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only an offensive rebound. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Silver Bluff pulled down 16 offensive rebounds.
Meanwhile, Fox Creek earned a 44-32 victory over Horse Creek Academy on Friday. The victory was just what Fox Creek needed coming off of a 70-26 loss in their prior contest.
Fox Creek's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jada Jennings, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Jennings has scored at least a third of Fox Creek's points. Maya Kryshtalowych was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 16 rebounds.
Strom Thurmond's loss dropped their record down to 11-10. As for Fox Creek, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-12 record this season.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's match: Strom Thurmond have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 5.1 threes per game. It's a different story for Fox Creek, though, as they've been averaging only 1.4 threes per game. Given Strom Thurmond's sizeable advantage in that area, Fox Creek will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything came up roses for Strom Thurmond against Fox Creek in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 45-7 victory. Will Strom Thurmond repeat their success, or does Fox Creek have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
