Northwest Rankin is headed in fresh off scoring the most goals they have all season. They put the hurt on Meridian with a sharp 8-0 victory on Friday. Give the Cougars' defense some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

Their offense was hitting Meridian from everywhere, as seven different players booted in a goal. Matthew Todd led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by himself.

Meanwhile, Petal unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 3-1 to Oak Grove. Having soared to a lofty eight goals in the game before, the Panthers couldn't push the score so high this time.

Northwest Rankin's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-2-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 21 goals over those five games. As for Petal, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-3.

Northwest Rankin came out on top in a nail-biter against Petal in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Northwest Rankin since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
