The Gilbert Indians have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 31 points or more this season. Couldn't have asked for a better start to 2024 than the 52-18 blowout they got on the road against Fox Creek. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Gilbert also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2022.
It was another big night for Ahleira Leaphart, who dropped a double-double on 29 points and 15 steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Gilbert's points. Another player making a difference was Kylie Morton, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, Fox Creek were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gilbert only pulled down 18 offensive rebounds.
The victory makes it two in a row for Gilbert and bumps their season record up to 10-5. As for Fox Creek, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gilbert will take on Orangeburg-Wilkinson at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Fox Creek, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Silver Bluff at 6:15 p.m. Silver Bluff is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last seven games.
