Canton has gone 8-2 against Towanda recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Warriors will square off against the Black Knights at 4:30 p.m.
Things were looking good for Canton after they put the first points on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They came up short against Williamson, falling 22-13. While Canton didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating Williamson 6-0 in the first period.
Reed Taylor was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Taylor was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Mason Stierly made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Luke Crawley, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Towanda narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Elk Lake 9-7. With that win, the Black Knights brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
The team relied heavily on Gianni Assante, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That home run was his first of the season.
Canton now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Towanda, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Canton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Towanda struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Canton took their win against Towanda in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
