Moore Haven has gone a perfect 4-0 against Dunbar recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Terriers will host the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Moore Haven sitting on eight straight wins and Dunbar on three.
While Moore Haven's victory against Vero Beach wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Terriers had just enough and edged out the Indians 7-6.
Brooklyn Sergent spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six runs (all of which were unearned) on one hit and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on JoEllen Erskin, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Teena Maree Covarrubias, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Dunbar hadn't done well against Lehigh recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on March 3rd. The Tigers were the clear victors by a 25-3 margin over the Lightning. That looming 25-3 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Tigers yet this season.
Yozeline Garius was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Garius was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, five RBI, and one triple. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Zoie Jackson was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and two doubles. Arnya Jackson was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.
Dunbar kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.
Moore Haven's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Dunbar, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Moore Haven has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 10.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Dunbar struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Moore Haven got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in February against Dunbar by a conclusive 18-0 score. Will the Terriers repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
