The Amherst County Lancers came into Tuesday's contest having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against Heritage by a score of 61-50 on Tuesday. The win was just what Amherst County needed coming off of a 51-31 defeat in their prior match.
Amherst County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ania Thompson out in front who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Thompson has scored all season. Hannah Hooper was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Heritage lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Marissa Allen, who scored 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tailor Coles, who scored 12 points.
Amherst County's win bumped their record up to 7-9. As for Heritage, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-13.
Amherst County won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Appomattox County at 7:00 p.m. on January 31st. Hopefully Amherst County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Tuesday. As for Heritage, they will head out on the road to take on Rustburg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Heritage is facing Rustburg at the right time seeing as Rustburg is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
