The Longmont Trojans will head out to challenge the Broomfield Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Longmont was handed a nine-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Saturday. They skirted past Northfield 4-3. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Trojans as it put an end to their six-game losing streak.
Longmont saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cooper Magley, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run. Another was Logan Etcheverry, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Broomfield had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it ten on Saturday. They never let the Lambkins get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by seven runs or more this season.
Broomfield also got a great performance from Maverick Scarpella as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Scarpella has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Caden Williamson was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Jackson Shepherd also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.
Broomfield's victory was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games. As for Longmont, their record is now 9-11.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Longmont has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Broomfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
