Baseball Recap: Mather's Losing Streak Snapped at Four Games

Mather barely beat Chicago Academy the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Rangers were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over the Cougars on Monday. The Rangers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by ten runs or more this season.

David Goytia and Lucas Lambert were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Goytia struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Lambert struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Those nine strikeouts gave Goytia a new career-high. At the plate, Goytia went 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs, while Lambert got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Goytia has become a key player for Mather: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-8 otherwise.

In other batting news, Jadier Castillo was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Roy Beard was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

Mather moved to 7-9 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Chicago Academy, their loss was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-13.

Mather will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Cougars: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
