Liberty (Madera, Calif.) grabbed the lead when it threw a touchdown with 11:00 to go in the fourth quarter and held on to defeat
Chowchilla (Calif.) 20-14 on Saturday. The score was the final lead change in a back-and-forth contest that featured two lead swaps.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Troy Uphoff, the Redskins went into halftime with a 14-7 lead. The Hawks took the lead for good with a passing touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Uphoff made a difference for Chowchilla. The junior running back ran for one touchdown. He has now scored 11 touchdowns on the season.
Wade Wallace was the top performer for Liberty. The sophomore running back ran for one touchdown. He has now scored 13 touchdowns on the season.
LHS had given up an average of 9.9 points prior to the contest. The 14 points that CHS ended with were well below its average of 37.9 coming into the game.
The Madera school got revenge for last year's 20-13 loss to the Redskins with the victory.
The loss comes after Chowchilla defeated Sierra 33-0 last week.
