Basketball Recap: Somerset Academy Collegiate Extends Winning Streak to Four

Somerset Academy Collegiate waltzed into their game on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They managed a 64-59 win over the San Antonio S.T.E.A.M. Academy Pirates. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Bears' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 662nd, while the Pirates are ranked 169th).

Despite the defeat, San Antonio S.T.E.A.M. Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Keymonte Jenkins dropped a double-double on 14 points and 17 boards. With that strong performance, Jenkins is now averaging an impressive 8.9 boards per game. Ryan Hayes was another key player, going 6 of 7 on his way to 14 points.

Somerset Academy Collegiate's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.0 points per game. As for San Antonio S.T.E.A.M. Academy, they moved to 7-1 with that loss, which also ended their seven-game winning streak.

Somerset Academy Collegiate will be taking part in a tournament against Brackett at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. As for San Antonio S.T.E.A.M. Academy, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Varsity Opponent at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
